I agree when it comes to mail, which is why I use offline mail
software rather than doing my mail in a browser. I actually like
using the Google search and its image search. I'm not a user of any
of their other services, though, and probably not likely to become
one.

I took a brief look at Hangouts and didn't like how much information
was gathered and shared by it, so I didn't go for it.

That's all that really matters, since that way your friend can
continue to use familiar software.
