[Techtalk] Alternative ways to implement a mailing list...

Ok Terri.. Chix (thanks to Tamara for the hotscripts/com reference,
btw) let's come at this budget mailing list "problem" again.

Recap: I own straslug/org which is currently "registrared" with Yahoo!
and hosted with 1&1 here in France (1&1 DNS server addresses plugged
into Yahoo!, everything working great). The [elusive thus far] goal
here, is to have a mailing list à la *techtalkATstraslug/org*, etc. My
ISP is ADSL2+, so I've got 1Mbps upstream [and] a fixed IP...

I just got word from 1&1 support, telling me in effect that 1 to many
aliases "weren't possible". My hosting plan says I've got 2,000
aliases, so now I've got a question in with them -- response pending
-- what are all these aliases for, and *how* in fact does one
use/deploy them? Terri gave a good lead with comma delimited e-mail
addresses via the web interface... I noticed the higher end plans (a
whole 9 bucks/mo) offer SSH access, and the online help talks about
CRON jobs... So the pending mystery here, is the 2,000 aliases that
come with my .99/mo -- web-based configuration only -- plan.

Another "out of band" option that hasn't escaped me, would be to start
a LinuxChix chapter here in Strasbourg, France; I'll need to read up
about it on your website later on. I've got a nice and healthy
(Sempron 2400+ | 512MB/400Mhz Ram | 40GB UDMA-133 HDD) Fedora 4
machine, just waiting to serve up LinuxChix mailing lists in French...

So let's do a "short circuit" evaluation here; If there is anyone who
might be interested in a Strasbourg LinuxChix chapter scenario, please
let me know. If your Mailman skills rocked, you could setup and
configure the lists/Mailman, while I go through the learning curve and
"prendre le relai" as far as ongoing admin.

If we don't get any "takers" for the above, then I'll come back for a
more in depth analysis of what Terri was talking about vis-à-vis free
mailing list providers / pointing addresses around and such.

If you are interested in becoming a "remote partner" for a LinuxChix
chapter as described above, and would like to know a little bit more
about me, please don't hesitate to PM...

Thanks everybody.
