You need to enable X forwarding on BOTH hosts, the remote and 
the local host. 

I did this yesterday and was able to run xchat on a server in
California, but display the app on my machine here in Toronto.

Also, If you dont have root, and want to see your ip info, or are like
me and too lazy to su, 

netstat -eia should show you some relavant info.
assuming netstat is installed.
