That would be WU imapd, then. Not one I'm terribly familiar with, I'm

That's why you have the source. Alternatively, it may be in your PAM
settings somewhere. You really don't want that root password going
across the network unencrypted. I would encourage you to send root's
mail to an unprivileged user.
