The topic is interesting in the abstract. A lot of people have very
intense feelings about spam.
I'm not surprised that a topic about dealing with spam has attracted a
lot of effort and energy.

Three issues here.
One:

Unless I've missed things in skimming the thread, noone has actually
intended to abuse or upset Raven. As far as they're concerned, they've
discussed the policy, not the person. They want to decide for themselves
whether the policy is good or not, and what to do about it.

Two:
While I appreciate people's contributions - LinuxChix couldn't run
without them! - I don't feel that the time-and-energy anyone puts into
it makes their ideas and opinions sacrosanct. I expect people to
criticise my ideas, or Val's, or Mary's, or Eli Therese', or .. well.
Everyone's. So long as people have been only criticising Raven's ideas,
I'm fine with it.
Ok, it's been a bit volatile and the sheer number of criticisms would
get anyone down. It should probably be a more abstract discussion - and
if anyone wants to start an abstract discussion on spam-blocking
techniques that do and don't work on issues, please do so!

Three:
If I've missed something, and someone - anyone - has critised
Raven-the-person, then please PLEASE tell me, or tell
techtalk-admin at linuxchix.org.
We DO have mechanisms in place for handling people criticising people
rather than ideas, or abusing either people or ideas. Please use them,
rather than just leaving.

I'm very, very sorry to hear that Raven was so hurt, and wishes to
leave.
