If you're wanting to access a Linux box from a Linux box, you might consider
using X Windows between the two machines. I've got several Linux boxes and
a couple of Sparcs sitting here, but I have to use Win2K for most of my
customer work (the things we do for money!). I use Cygwin/XFree86 and
either a straight X emulation (FVWM is included with Cygwin), or I'll setup
XDMCP and it's just like you're sitting at the box. Since you've also got
Macs, I can't offer anything in the way of suggestions there, but XFree86 is
available for Mac so you should be able to make that work as well.

There are some really nice advantages to this configuration. Currently,
I've got most of my boxes in one room, but my s/o (Tabatha Persad) likes to
work in the living room as well. We've got her set up with XFree86 on a
notebook with 802.11b and she connects back to her Mandrake box via XDMCP.
That lets her have her environment no matter which machine she's on.

Incidentally, this also saves you the cost of a KVM in most cases. We've
got a KVM on the server rack, but we almost never use it unless something is
wrong..
