Writing to the CD is, of course, not feasible. But it -can- be done -
Andrew and I produced a Java program that worked with a MySQL (or
PostgreSQL, I forget) DB and worked off a CD.

Andrew wrote an article about it for IBM's website, I believe. Search
for articles by Andrew Delboy.

He worked on the DB side - this was my first commercial job after I
recovered from CFS, and I don't know the details of Andrew's side of the
code. (I did the GUI)
