Thanks so much all. In a "senior" moment, I thought I had selected 
to have the multimedia modules installed during my last RH7.0 re-
install a few months back. It looks like I didn't.

Since I was not busy at work  :-)
I downloaded the sndconfig RPM and three other dependent RPMS 
and installed them and now I have sound!!!
