Our client is actively seeking a highly motivated Linux / Storage System
Administrator to join their team and support international deployments
of their service.  The position is located in the Redwood City/Belmont
area.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the deployment and
ongoing management of a Linux-based infrastructure to support
Development and QA in addition to overseeing the deployment of the
production environment overseas.  The individual will be a key
contributor in planning and execution of the infrastructure strategy in
addition to being the primary escalation point for system related issues
related to this project. The position is based in Belmont, CA and may
require travel within the US with occasional overseas travel (1-2x per
year).

Primary responsibilities include but not limited to:

*  Install and manage critical development, QA and pre-production
hardware and systems (servers, storage, load balancers, backup in
addition to other appliance based systems).

*  Support and manage Redhat/CentOS Linux including, but not limited to,
OS installation, deployment automation, troubleshooting components,
system performance and tuning *  Lead the ongoing management of Mail,
DNS, LDAP and associated services *  Manage tape backups (Netbackup
environment) and propose solutions for improving backup/restore
strategies including database (MySQL) backup. 

*  Configure and manage performance monitoring tools for notification
and alerting services including application monitoring *  Compose and
maintain documentation and create a knowledgebase on best practices as
well as deployment/ management specifics for the Operations team. 

*  Recommend, test and deploy solutions for high availability
configurations  (clustering, load balancing) *  Proactively troubleshoot
all system errors and failures, support the development and QA teams for
their ongoing requirements as well as controlled release of
applications.

*  Support basic database setup and installation (MySQL) *  Develop
procedures and scripts for automation of operational tasks and reporting
*  Willing to take on challenges and focus on rapid execution. 

 

Requirements:

*  BS in Computer Science/Computer engineering or equivalent experience.

*  5+ years experience providing system administration services for high
transaction web services / media services operations.

*  Expert Linux(Redhat/CentOS) administration experience *  Thorough
understanding of networking principles especially the TCP/IP protocol
suite.

*  Expert level experience in troubleshooting, performance tuning and
identifying capacity bottlenecks. 

*  Experience with Server Load balancing technologies and algorithms
(F5, Netscaler, Cisco) *  Extensive knowledge of monitoring tools like
nagios, Cricket, Cacti, Big Brother etc.

*  Experience with LDAP and Directory services, DNS, MAIL.

*  Strong experience setting up high availability configurations *
Hands-on experience in enterprise storage and backup systems including
SANs and Network Attached Storage (Netapp).

*  Familiarity with Apache, Tomcat and MySQL.

*  Knowledge of best-practices for switch, router, firewall, load
balancer implementations *  Knowledge of ticketing and deployment tools
is desirable.

*  Strong scripting and automation skills *  Ability to produce quick
fixes as well as formulate long term solutions to problems *  Ability to
multi-task in a highly technical, fast-paced environment and willingness
to work non-standard hours when necessary.

*  Experience or familiarity with content encoding applications is an
advantage.

*  Should be a strong team player with the ability to communicate
effectively across multiple teams
