Recently our firm has been retained for what we consider one of the better
ground floor, full time opportunities to work with a proven management team
that is truly committed to the promises of Open Source technology. Our
client's business plan has been validated by the stature of the Silicon
Valley based venture capital firms that led the series A funding.  We will
disclose these firms to proficient candidates.  
 
Hundreds of leading Open Source engineers at IBM, Intel, Sun, AMD & other
companies have been contributing code and planning products to work with
their solutions since its inception.  The position's details follow:
 
Responsibilities as a Senior Linux Consultant, serving mostly NY/NJ
Investment Bank Clients, you will provide customers technical leadership in
the installation, configuration, and implementation of Open Source
Virtualization products and technologies. The position requires the ability
to execute small projects independently & to implement high-quality
technical solutions on these products.

Responsibilities include: -Build and maintain confidence of Colleagues &
Customers; -Independently conduct small to medium engagements with
customers; -Maintain current knowledge of the Virtualization product & its
entire product line; -Conduct consulting engagements in a timely and
effective manner; -Assist in the development of standard reusable
"productized" consulting service offerings, including definition of tasks,
deliverables and standard estimates; -Help to document best practices during
their initial development & deployment; feed them into the knowledge base
for reuse by Customers & Partners.
 
Responsibilities include:

-Maintain current knowledge of the Virtualization product & its entire
product line;
-Conduct consulting engagements in a timely and effective manner;
-Assist in the development of standard reusable "productized" consulting
service offerings, including definition of tasks, deliverables and standard
estimates;
-Help to document best practices during their initial development &
deployment; feed them into the knowledge base for reuse by Customers and
Partners
 
Requirements:
-5+ years of relevant experience;
-At least 2 years experience in customer-facing positions as a professional
services consultant or engineer, preferably with an a Software/Hardware
Vendor, Internet or "Big  5" consulting organization;
-Experience with modern software development methodologies, with emphasis on
software & hardware architecture, and infrastructure design and development;
-At least several years experience in infrastructure architecture and design
of complex distributed systems environments, including failover techniques,
recovery/rollback, and application partitioning;
-Strong practical UNIX or Linux systems administration skills;
-Strong application software development for one or more of the Linux, UNIX
(e.g. Solaris), Windows NT and Windows 2000 operating systems. Systems
programming or OS internal level skills would be an advantage;
-Understanding of computer server architectures, including peripheral
interfaces (SCSI, RAID, Ethernet) and multi-processor designs (SMP)
-Familiarity with systems management concepts, processes and standards (e.g.
SNMP); capacity/performance management and tuning; and storage and network
management
-Understanding of modern IT production data center and Internet (ISP/ASP)
hosting operations;
-Strong Perl programming/scripting skills desired.  Programming in C/C++ and
UNIX shell are also an advantage/helpful;
-A good practical understanding of Web-based application development,
including cgi-bin, and Apache or IIS server platforms;
-Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
-Ability for limited regional travel up to 30 percent of the time;
-B.S./B.A./M.S. degree or equivalent technical training
 
Up to 130,000 package plus stock & benefits.
Must be U.S. or Canadian Citizen, US Permanent Resident (or current H1
holder presently residing in the United States).
