As a general answer, "bricking" can mean "fry the hardware so that
it can never work again no matter what", or it can mean "mess up the
software, so you have to re-flash the OS or bootloader or something".
The first meaning makes sense (turns the hardware into the
functional equivalent of a brick), but in recent years the second
meaning has become the most common one. Usually a "bricked" device
can be restored if it was bricked by software. Resoration is less
likely if it was bricked by some kind of unfortunate hardware event,
like a high-voltage spike or a glass of Mountain Dew.
