If I had to do that every time, then I'd simply stop volunteering to
help people.  It's hard enough to help people in the first place.
Making it harder to solve the problem by adding in heaps of guesswork
even before one gets the information as to what the actual problem
is, makes it not worth my while to even try to help.

Now, if I was standing right next to the person as they were sitting in
front of their computer, telling them to use the GUI would make sense,
because I'd be able to see exactly what they were seeing.  But when
communicating via a text medium such as email, giving and receiving text
makes much more sense.
