Quite possibly an HP issue ... my dv2000 has always run hot too.

I ran vista on it for a while (ugh) until I finally got annoyed enough 
at it to blow it away. I'm running Fedora 9 now, but so far, no change.

I will be watching this thread for ideas, though!
