We used to use the base of a baby-bottle steriliser to humidify the air
for one of the kids who used to get croup.  Only trouble is it runs for
about 20 mins or so until all the water boils away.  Won't run all night
unless you set it up with a drip-feed of some sort.  The 'Tomy' brand one

we had would cut off once it boiled dry so no problem going asleep with it
on.
