[Techtalk] X forwarding problem

G'day

I have installed mysql-query-browser for a client on a CentOS 5 system
called "owl". When I log into the desktop directly and launch
./mysql-query-browser from the command line, it displays fine. When I
mouse over a menu selection, it is highlighted and I can still read it.

When I "ssh -X" from "owl" to "owl" and launch the query browser, the
display is a bit different shade and hovering over the menu items makes
them disappear. As though it is highlighting in the same color as the
background or something.

This originally happened when I was using PuTTy to ssh in from a Windows
box and I decided to try the scenario above in case it was a Windows
issue. It behaves the same as above. I didn't have another machine to
ssh from right now for an external test.

In all three situations above, I launch the mysql-query-browser from
console and get the following messages, but it does run.

(mysql-query-browser-bin:30888): Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme
engine in module_path: "clearlooks",
Fontconfig warning: line 32: unknown element "cachedir"
Fontconfig warning: line 33: unknown element "cachedir"
Fontconfig warning: "/etc/fonts/conf.d/80-delicious.conf", line 18:
invalid match target "scan"

Has anyone seen this before, knows what in the ssh client, X forwarding
or wherever, I can change something? I've been at this since Wednesday
and am sure the answer is out there, I'm just not feeding the Google
beast correctly.......

Thanks in advance......
