Currently I'm using a Canon PowerShot S410 which stores images on a
compact flash card, which I use a separate USB mass storage device to
read. Once upon a tome I tried hooking the camera directly up to the
computer and usin gtkamto get the images off... that didn't work too
well, and corrupted most of the images (I'd recommend against using
gtkam).

I always go the compact flash route as CF readers are really cheap and
the cards themselves offer a lot of storage on the cheap and are
well-nigh indestructible.

A bug in the hand is better than one as yet undetected.
