I'm looking into installing a video security system, for outdoors, and after a
couple of hours of googling am feeling a bit overwhelmed. The devices don't
have to be weatherproof, I can build some kind of housing. Maybe disguise
them as birdhouses. I want a four-camera system, possibly with infrared for
night imaging. I have a couple of outbuildings to watch, so wireless would be
nice for them. The other two will be mounted on the outside of my house. I
think a DVR system is the way to go, but there are also some slick little
standalone units that might work for the outbuildings.
I want to be able to record images and have some kind of portable playback,
like printing hard copies or copying to a CD or DVD.
Anyone have experience with these? Will an ordinary TV-enabled video card turn
a PC into a DVR? How much do you have to spend to get decent video quality?
There's an awful lot of different options, and of course I don't want to
break the bank. Tips and useful links are welcome.
