[Techtalk] kernel upgrade question

I am about to jump from 2.4.22 to 2.6.*. I can read
those HOW-TOs later cuz right now I am really confused
about what to d.load.

At http://kernel.org it says: "The latest stable
version of the Linux kernel is: 2.6.8.1." But I can
see it's a patch. 

If I go to
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/
I can find 2.6, 2.6.1 etc. etc.

My question is: which one should I d.load to upgrade
my kernel from 2.4.22 to 2.6.theLatest.
