I think I have a great problem here... Please see

My 30Gb internal harddisk is filled with softwares which I don't wish to
install them again, and it occupies about 24 Gb, leaving me with 6 Gb to
partition /boot for linux.

Problem!!
<<BIOS can't access data beyond cylinder 1024, which is ~8.5 GB>>

I have another external harddisk connected with USB2.0, but the OS will only
recognise this after boot.

Could I solve the above problem?
