Since you're using Debian ... I've not tried using it yet, but I've
just recently heard about rdiff-backup.  It may be worth taking a
look at as it stores a single backup with rdiff"tags" so a previous
incarnation can be retrieved.  I've just installed it and am
starting to look at it.
