No need; I just ordered an 8.2 Pro box from Amazon for about 40 euros.
I'll give it a shot and see how it works.  SuSE says on their website
that 8.2 includes Gnome 2.2; that's good enough for me.  Also, the
packages I'd like to have seem to be on the list as well.
