I kind of like the Frozen Bubble: http://www.frozen-bubble.org/ The most 
interesting thing about it is that it's written in Perl.

It gets old fast, though. So does Linux Breakout.

If you're interested in Linux games, you should see the SDL (Standard 
Direct-media Library): http://www.libsdl.org/

If you're a Python fan, you should see all the games written using Pygame, 
which is a non-trivial Python bridge to the SDL: http://www.pygame.org/
