Can you tell us what's happening when you try to dial? Are you able to 
connect at all?  Or is the modem dialling and then the connection isn't 
completed? 

The error status messages you mentioned in your original post aren't 
familiar to me; where did they come from?

Some connection problems can be caused by permission problems with pppd; 
some require a look at the hosts file. If you're able to give more 
details, it will be easier to diagnose what is going wrong.
