[Techtalk] XFS vs EXT3?

I'm in the early stages of compiling my new linux system from scratch (not 
using the LFS guide). Most of the software that is going to be compiled is 
already prepared and waiting, but I can't find any recent and thorough 
information on the performance of XFS vs EXT3. I've seen old IBM articles on 
this and various smaller charts of information but many seem to be in 
disagreement or incomplete. Does anyone have any opinions on which filesystem 
would be best or any online resources I can take a look at for this? I 
decided to go with the latest 2.6 kernel for the newer driver selection and a 
few of the new features, but I still can't decide on which filesystem to use.
