Thank you. Thank you very much for calling me stupid. I just love asking for
help and being told I dont understand information and links that have little
or nothing to do with the original question. So far your emails have tried
to tell me how to partition my drive when you dont even know what I'm going
to use it for, you've told me to put windows as the first primary partition
and that what I'm seeing is left over from a windows install. They then went
on to provide bucket loads of info about a partition type I never mentioned
in the first place and continually asserted "use only 0x85" which is
incorrect in some situations.

So. So far the information you've given has been incorrect, and the links
have to a large degree been irrelevant. But I'm the one that doesnt
understand anything. Great. Thanks.

In this latest email you've assumed I'm going to be booting linux off a dos
partition, booting off drives in the extended partition and all sorts of odd
scenarios I've never ever mentioned. Anywhere. I'm not trying to use a dos
partition to run linux, something you seem to think I'm doing. I'm wondering
if you understand what an extended partition is, given that you keep telling
me that "0x0F cant be used as a linux partition type".

So. I give up. I'm sorry I even asked the question in the first place now.
I've learnt my lesson and wont post again when all I cop is email like this.
Thanks to Kai and Brenda who did answer the original question.
