[Techtalk] MD5Sum

I want to have md5sum on a file as it is less costly (computationally), 
faster & more efficient. I _know_ I could use some other symmetric 
algorithm but umm....better stick to MD5.

md5sum command wouldn't seem to cooperate. Seems to me like md5sum is only 
to check (--check) MD5 & not to generate one.

Well, I did "md5sum file_name> md5sum" which calculates the value but if 
fails when I check (--check) the same file.

Any clue anyone?
