Update Re: [Techtalk] RH9 upgrade problem

I've been frustrated with the RedHat 9.0 installation process. I also had
a kernel panic after it had been installed merely 2 days. What caused it?
XScreensaver, with the screensavers that had shipped with the RedHat cd's
(they were bought from the store, so I am reasonably sure the CD's were
good).

XScreensaver was set to random and would lock up the system on certain
savers. So I went to the settings, going through the savers to try to
find one that wouldn't crash the system. I hit "Atlantis" and froze the
system solid again (I'm talking keyboard lights flashing, can't get to a
virtual terminal dead).

When I rebooted the system, I was dumped into console mode to do system
maintenance (say it with me - fsck). So I tried to run e2fsck, but at
next reboot I got a kernel panic. We've reinstalled the OS since then,
and found that / was somehow wiped and re-made into an ext2 blank
partition (rather than the ext3 it had been), that might have been user
error in e2fsk. I have to say tho that it had me longing for the
auto-fsck routine Mandrake has.

I'm going to be filing a bug report on the problems I've encountered.
There have been too many in 9.0 :b
