[Techtalk] startx problem

I installed RH 8 with text login and I'm having problems with startx
after changing users - sometimes startx works, sometimes it doesn't.
When it doesn't, I get messages like: "Fatal server error: PAM
authentication failed, cannot start x server".  OR "Waiting for X
server to shut down.  The application 'Nautilus' lost its connection
to the display :0.0".  Does anyone know why this occurs and what can
be done to fix it?
