Hi gang,

Another chance at fame and glory. I want to collect True Tales of Sysadmins on 
New Jobs, or, Inheriting A Big Mess and Surviving.

How do you deal with taking over a new job, or new customer, and their 
computing infrastructure is a complete mess? Every version of windows, 
various *nixes and BSDs, weirdo no-name routers, switches, and other 
components, and nothing is documented. Printers are shared through user's 
PCs. Domains and groups are higgledy-piggledy. Cables are snarled, circuits 
are overloaded, passwords are lost. What's your plan of attack? How do you 
explain it to your boss or client? 

The best true tales will be published in an article in crossnodes.com, with 
your name and everything. Successes only, please. Keep it around 2-3 
paragraphs. I wish I had room for long gory tales with happy endings, but I 
only get 1000 words.
