No need for the frown, it's an improvement. :-)
The new scheme makes it much easier for third-party applications to be
incorporated into the menu scheme, amongst other, more technical
reasons.
Except that menu editing is broken, the new scheme is considered a big
improvement in the long run (which is a lot like saying "I have this
new, really cool car and if the steering wheel wan't missing I'd be able
to show you", but menu editing is only one thing that is done with
menus).
