Andrew,

I have had a significant amount of trouble getting
the newer Netatalk releases to work from a build.
I'm sure it's possible, and reading through the
forums on the sf.net site may help a lot. But if you
just want it working, I would try one of the RPMs,
either the 1.5pre6 or the older netatalk+asun release.

They seem to work pretty well right "out of the box."
