thanks heaps for your support... :-)))

i've posted to linux-audio-user as well, had some initial responses but 
havent heard anything since i wrote this lot back...

someone please help! ;-)

strangely i've had the same problem on my desktop, (which is home-built) 
but i think the tp600E is a different kettle of fish altogether.
