I'm confused about WINE -- maybe someone here can unconfuse me.

If I have wine installed on my linux box (which I do), does that mean
I theoretically should have all I need to be able to run windows apps?
Or do I still need a copy of Windows (perhaps on the other partition
of a dual-boot system)?

I tried playing around with wine once (I don't really need it, but I
thought it would be fun to see if it would run an old astronomy program
I had) but utterly failed to get it configured -- apparently one has to
set up an elaborate configuration file telling it where the virtual C:
is, where the virtual A: is, where Program Files lives, where dlls live,
and on and on. It wasn't clear whether I was supposed to make all these
as empty directories and then wine would do something with them, or
whether I was supposed to point to directories where actual Windows
system files already lived, and I couldn't find a howto that made that
clear. There didn't seem to be any defaults for anything. It sounded
like way too much fiddling and I gave up.
