I have a Toshiba laptop as well. The Canadian model is Satellite 1800 VF1. It
is 1.1 Gz, 256 MB Ram, 15 GB HD, has DVD, built-in ethernet, winmodem (GRR),
sound and video (Trident Cyber Aladin I think) Also has Infra-red port. I
have installed dual boot XP and Mandrake 8.2 with KDE 3 upgrade. Laptop works
great, even DVD. Modem does not work (of course, it is winmodem, but I can
live with that). However, it does not reboot. This is apparently a known
issue with Toshiba laptop users that the reboot function does not work, it
gets to a point and then hangs. From there you have to shut it off and back
on and then it will start up again.
