Ah, I see, thanks! Now it creates a backup file filename~ in that dir when
I write. You encouraged me to look at the docs, so now I have 2 new lines
in my .vimrc :

	set backup
	set backupdir=/home/grs/bak

so my backups all go in one place where I can corral them and clear 'em
out periodically.  Thanks for the tip!
