Add my vote for iceWM. It was recommended to me just the other day so I 
switched over to it from KDE. The very first thing I noticed was that it is 
*fast*. The next thing I noticed is that I don't have all those icons 
cluttering the desktop, all the necessaries in the menu, and the ability to 
create buttons on my taskbar for the things I use most often. All in all it's 
sleek, very not in my face, and fast.

Free shows me 806k of memory in use with just iceWM and xterm running.
