yes.....! :-)

i did find the best way was to install from source, in the end, following the 
guide i mentioned - it only took a day... ;-)... but had no more dependency 
problems, well, a couple, but nothing i couldnt solve... :) 
learnt a lot in the process too - its the first time i've built a desktop 
manager from source, i must say it was a lot less painful than doing KDE3 
with rpms as well... (nearly killed the system doing that one!)...

still gotta sort out evolution, about to uninstall and re-install and see if 
that helps...

must say gnome2 was worth it... its lovely :-)
