Unfortunately, I can't even get CUPS installed to run the setup. I tried
both the source and an rpm (an older version), and neither will install if
the other print junk is floating around. And I can't get the other print
junk deleted.

How did you get it to work?

I just tried to install the rpm, and here's what happened:

[root at elbereth rpms]# rpm -ivh cups-1.0.5-linux-2.0.36-intel.rpm

[root at elbereth rpms]# rpm -q cups

When I tried installing from source, the executable wasn't installed; or I
couldn't find the executable. I did a 'locate cups' and there was a file
called cupsomatic, but there was no cupsd anywhere, and all the other
files were in /usr/share/docs.
