You will need to compile sylpheed yourself in order to have support for gpg. In order to do this you will also need to have any gpg-devel packages installed.
Sylpheed is very easy to compile - it was the first programme I ever compiled on my own.

We can help you some more if you provide details of which distro you are using. That way we can tell you what extra packages you need to install.

But are you sure youre using Sylpheed? Cause the latest release is only 0.7.4
