Okay, so what could be configured wrong/different? I'm really
at a loss here. I've spent perhaps 40 hours trying everything
I know, and that's quite a bit. The only thing I can come up
with is that if the interface name is "eth1" it works properly.
Any other interface (and I did install another card and try out
"eth2" to see how it behaved) has a maximum throughput of ~70KB/s
and a huge number of framing errors when the MTU size is set to
1500. By comparision, "eth1" has a throughput well above that
and no framing errors. A uniprocessor machine I have has the
same network card (Netgear FA311) and is able to transfer 4MB/s
between itself and another uniprocessor machine with a 3Com card.
My laptop is the same way -- very high throughput between it and
the other machines. Lowering the MTU size down towards 300
gradually increases the throughput, but the framing errors
still happen.
