It means that the binary file ip_alias.o doesn't seem to have been
compiled correctly.

What is the conifguration of this box anyway? Is it a standard Mandrake
install (if so, which version number)? Or are you working with a box
that was set up by the UNIX guru that you may be replacing?

If the former, Mandrake users I asked seemed to think that the ip
aliasing is built into the kernel, and so you should be able to skip
this step. If the later, you may need to build a kernel for it, which
you may not find easy.

The fact that the module name ends in mdk suggests that it is a stock
kernel, that is, one that came with the install, which is a good sign.

Does ip aliasing workk if you simply skip the first step in the HOWTO?
