Hi Kent,

I cannot contribute much myself to this, but I remember there was a
thread on the modssl list a while back, when someone else had observed
something similar in his apache logs.

Several possibilities -- from someone misusing your server as a proxy,
to someone simply trying a "telnet ... 80"; "GET http://WWW.YAHOO.COM/
HTTP/1.1" -- were being discussed...
