Ok, that listing was from netcat which
automagically check /etc/services. The
entries I pasted were ones that weren't
listed there. Upon searching snort I
have found most of them. However, I
don't understand their function or what
is utilizing them, namely:

gandalf [10.0.0.1] 688 (?) open REALM-RUSD
gandalf [10.0.0.1] 683 (?) open CORBA IIOP
gandalf [10.0.0.1] 678 (?) open GNU Generation Foundation NCP
gandalf [10.0.0.1] 659 (?) open URL Rendezvous

Do I need those?? What are they? :-{

Lastly, I have a port that is showing as
open but constantly changing. Every time
I run netcat it is different but usually in the
2000-4500 range. Could it be netcat
itself?

Thanks for the info thus far!
Walt
