[techtalk] X Windows

Hello,

I recently upgraded to linux 6.2, but I can't
seem to get X windows for any user except root.
I also can't run kde now, only gnome.
When I type kdm, it says

kdm: error in loading shared libraries: libqt.so.1: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

though there are files
/usr/lib/qt-2.1.0/lib/libqt.so.2
/usr/lib/qt-2.1.0/lib/libqt.so.2.1.0
(the first just links to the second)
I don't know what these are doing; just putting a link from
libqt.so.1 to libqt.so.2.1.0 didn't help.

Also, though user 'helena' can log in when gnome is not
running, typing 'gmd' gets the message that 'only root
wants to run gmd'; I tried to change file permissons, but
that just meant even root wasn't allowed to run it for
some reason. So, if root gets gnome running, it won't
let 'helena' log in at the log in window, and if I type
'login helena' in a terminal window it just vanishes.

I expect there is a simple answer, but I've no idea
where to look for it.

Thanks for any help you can give,

Helena
