Heh, good try but this isn't right either :)
All .xinitrc should contain is 'exec startkde'
But then there's the possibility that [xk]dm is being used.
The problem is (probably) that some of the stuff that kpanel depends
on is screwed up. Because kpanel depends on more than just its config
file (it looks at lots of 'desktop' files too) the best and in fact
easiest solution is simply to remove your personal KDEDIR (~/.kde)
and start again. It's easy to get your config files back by copying
if that's necessary.
