last i heard, the situation is this:
 - if you ordered from circuit city, they're still hackable.
   i've been waiting on mine nearly 2 months now, though.
 - if you order through netpliance, they're still hackable,
   /but/ you have to prepay for 3 months of their online 
   service at $30 a month, and if you cancel the service
   before the three months are up you're charged $500. 
   frankly, i'll take the extra $90 over the $500 -- it's
   still a decent terminal for <$300, anyway.
