OTOH, if one settles on XFree86, which ships with every Linux distro, and a
combo of KDE and kwm, or KDE and Enlightenment, or Gnome and Enlightenment,
the functionality becomes quite familiar quickly. Let's face it, the Windows
'9x/NT interface was ripped off from Mac OS and OS/2 WPS, and is nothing
that's exactly original or unique. Once somebody gets used to the little
differences between what they've run and their new Linux environment shouldn't
be a big deal.

BTW, does anyone else feel that the best combinations (the ones I listed
above) give better desktop functionality than Microsoft currently offers?
I always chuckle at Microsoft and their supporters' insistence that Linux
isn't ready for the desktop, or that it's command-line oriented. Clearly,
those people never spent any time in a well configured X-based environment
with a modern desktop manager and window manager.

Regards,
Caity
