My /etc/resolv.conf is appended. In my case, the name server is
127.0.0.1 because I run a local nameserver (which is configured to
talk to my ISP). This is because I have a house intranet; if you only
have one computer you probably don't need to do this.
Replace 127.0.0.1 with whatever your ISP says its nameserver is, and
set the "search" parameters to match your "default" network name
(strictly not necessary, but lets you use 'abbreviated' names which is
helpful) and you should be all set.
