Job Description:

PayPal is a financial intuition with millions of customers globally using their financial services. They run a 7x24 Network Operation Command center and have a project that requires a contractor to come in and back fill an internal SA's position for 6-9 months while the internal employee works on a special project. Our contractor will be part of the NOC/Operations team here in Scottsdale. Approximately 12 people are on the team. This contract will require a seasoned SA (System Administrator)..
Scope of work: The contractor will provide technical support for their internal groups and vendors for their Live Site. The environment consists of approximately 2000 web servers, 100 databases and a total of 3000 hosts. Our contractor needs to be a heavy hitter in the following technologies: he/she will support Red Hat Enterprise 5.4 and Solaris 10 on HP, SUN, and IBM hardware. From a day to day perspective our contractor will monitor servers, restart them, and troubleshoot disc issues such as "them being full or servers failing". Very typical Sys Admin duties but in a large enterprise environment with heavy Linux and Solaris. If our contractor has basic Perl for scripting it's a bonus. Veritas is used for their utility tool, but that will be taught on the job. They do have MAC workstations therefore our contractor will be able to get up to speed a lot quicker if he/she has experience working on MACs. They do have a ticketing system, again something they will train our contractor on. Good troubleshooting skills and communication skills are key.

Additional Job Info:

Our candidate needs to have proven experience and expertise in UNIX, RED HAT 5.4 and Solaris 10 support in a production environment; SUN, IBM, and HP hardware support in production environment; be able to support Netscaler and F5 load balancers; Application support in a UNIX environment; Ticket Management; Phone support of complex issues; use of MAC as a working Desktop. *Current Initiatives: - PayPal has recently partnered with Discover Card. Wherever Discover is accepted PayPal is also accepted as a form of Payment. - PayPal partnered with the largest producer of POS systems which is in retailers across the country. PayPal did very well in their Pilot with Home Depot and now is being accepted in 20 retailers across the country WHAT DO THESE INITIATIVES MEAN?? - The NOC is seeing a HUGE increase in the number of payments per second and therefore the NOC is experiencing increased tickets/calls/changes to take care of. The NOC is expected to grow by up to 40 people between San Jose and Scottsdale in the next 12-18 months.
