I've contracted at TESC and socialize with a number of IT employees  
there so while I'm not an employee, I believe that this would be a  
great job.

- Evergreen is a unique liberal arts school located in Olympia, WA in  
the US

- they have hired international applicants in the past with pre- 
existing visas (you should ask them if interested and no visa)

- past employees have negotiated a relocation allowance

- telecommuting - you'd have to negotiate

SPECIAL NOTE

There is currently one full-time, overtime-exempt Information  
Technology Specialist 4 position available Computing & Communications’  
Network Services work unit at the Olympia Campus of The Evergreen  
State College.  The candidate pool established from this announcement  
may be used to fill comparable permanent, full-time, part-time and  
temporary vacancies for the next six months to one year.

COMPENSATION

·         Experience and training may be considered in salary placement.

·         Salary range is $4,453 to $5,841 per month.

POSITION PURPOSE

Under the administrative direction of the Network Services Manager and  
leveraging the resources of the Network Services team, this position  
is responsible for delivering Linux/UNIX based application server  
platforms and operating environments that are reliable, secure and  
meet the needs of our constituents.  This position is a senior-level  
specialist in the area of application server platforms and operating  
environments. As such this position performs related analysis, system  
design, acquisition, installation, maintenance, systems programming,  
project management, and consulting tasks with regard to complex multi- 
server systems.



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Four years of information technology experience such as consulting,  
analyzing, designing, programming, installing and/or maintaining  
computer software applications, hardware, telecommunications, or  
network infrastructure equipment; directing projects; providing  
customer or technical support in information technology; or  
administering or supervising staff who performed work in any of these  
information technology disciplines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

     * Define standards and practices for the installation and  
maintenance of Linux operating system software and system level  
components.
     * Develop systems programs and scripts to facilitate the  
maintenance and management of Linux systems software.
     * Conduct routine installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and  
tuning of Linux systems software.
     * Manage systems implementation projects.
     * Design multi-tier systems architecture in support of the  
development and deployment of in-house and 3rd party software products.
     * Develop systems programs and scripts to facilitate the  
maintenance of a wide variety of middle-tier application components  
and web content delivery frameworks.
     * Lead initiatives to advance the use of technology. This  
position is a key technical consultant in their specific area of  
expertise and works closely with the community to identify  
opportunities to leverage technology in new and creative ways.
     * Plan and design deployment strategies and install and maintain  
application server software such as Apache/PHP application stack and  
J2EE application servers, software development and deployment  
frameworks, content management systems and courseware systems.
     * Provide technical support to software development teams by  
staging test environments, consulting on deployment practices,  
production rollouts, benchmarking, tuning, systems integration, etc.
     * Actively contribute to the development of team-wide direction  
and planning.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

     * Extensive knowledge of Linux/UNIX operating systems.
     * Extensive knowledge of systems programming in a Linux/UNIX  
environment.
     * Extensive knowledge of web application server management.
     * Administrative Knowledge of web application development  
practices and environments.
     * Functional Knowledge of operating system virtualization.
     * Ability to solve complex technology problems.
     * Ability to work in a self-directed team environment.
     * Ability to rapidly learn new technologies.
     * Ability to manage high profile, cross-divisional IT projects.
     * Good oral and written communications skills.
     * Excellent customer services skills.
     * Ability to work with diverse groups of people.
     * Ability to work independently.



CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

     * As a condition of employment, persons hired must provide proof  
of identity and employment eligibility within three (3) days of  
beginning work, and persons may be required to submit to a background  
check.

·         This position is assigned to part of the institution that is  
covered by a union shop provision of the Department of Personnel/ 
Higher Education Division.  Therefore, new employees are required to  
pay dues to the Federation of State Employees within thirty (30) days  
of their hiring date.
